Low interstate rate, High in-state & recharge fees, 06/02/2009
By: Smarty555
I recommend this card with two important reservations. I do not recommend using this card for in-state calls or recharging this card over the phone.

The base interstate rate is one card minute per call minute. Rates for calls originating and terminating within the same state range from 1 to 8 card minutes per call minute depending on the state and are subject to change. Recently, AT&T added a convenience fee not to exceed 15% for recharging the card. On a 1500 minute recharge I was recently charged the full 15% . This charge can be avoided by always buying new cards. I have not determined whether the recharge fee is collected when recharging the card at the Sam's Club warehouse.

The payphone fee has increased over time. The rate that I looked up is currently not to exceed 35 minutes or units per call .

My positive recommendation is based on low interstate rates without the gotchas of high connection fees, maintenance charges, and expiration dates. The Sam's Club version of the AT&T Pre-Paid phone cards are significantly lower in cost than other AT&T Pre-Paid phone cards and are lower than most competitors. Most denominations of the Sam's Club AT&T PrePaid Phone Card offer optional features of pin-less dialing, speed dial, card protection, and auto-recharge.

Posted June 2, 2009. The fees associated with the card are subject to change.

OK for now in Illinois, 03/27/2009
By: Whynickname
Other reviewers have complained about the cost of "in state" calls. They are correct for their states, but in Illinois, at least for now, and in several other states (See the card instructions) the cost is one minute for each minute used, the same as for state to state calls. So in Illinois "in state" calls are OK

Go find another card for in state calls, 02/18/2009
By: heyyou
I bought one of these cards years ago, and it was pretty good, a pretty decent value.
Within the last couple of years though, they started raking you over the coals by charging even more taxes etc. PLUS, in state calls are ridiculously high.
If you make only state to calls, it's better, but if most of your call are in state, do what I'm doing, look for a better card/value.

Do not use this card for in-state calls, 06/16/2008
By: Rich80918
If you use the AT&T Calling Card for in-state calls in Colorado, the rate is 5 units per minute. That means you are charge 5 minutes for every minute of use. Example: Using a 1,000 minute card for "state to state" calls costs $.0347 per minutes. Using the same card for in-state calls costs $.1735 per minute.

Misleading wording by att, 05/07/2008
By: oldbutsmarter
We purchased a 1000 minute card for a friend as she makes all her calls in-state. In the past all the cards we gave her were minutes for in-state. Now the cards are charged various minutes per in-state. This card should be called 1000 units as in our state you only get 333.3333 minutes on this card. We are charged 3 minutes per minute called on the phone. I would not recommend this card to a friend anymore.
