call the help line..., 02/04/2010

I too had the battery failure as described. Was disappointed it happened, but I called the number listed on the package (800) 248-6657 and talked with their parts dept. It is under warranty for 1 year but if you've kept your receipt they will send out new battery pack if purchased within the last 2 years.

I had no receipt so I asked how much (a lot I would have bet...) $2 plus a$1 shipping charge. For $3 I will be using the light again. That is worth it not being scrapped and having to spend another $30 to get 2 more...

POOR Product, 01/01/2010
By: SeaDog0824 , Savannah, GA
Very poor product design. Like so many other reviews I've read, my lights failed at the battery pack. Both lights failed in exactly the same place. The screws aren't long enough, they are too small in diameter. I would love to know where I could find the manufacturers info or website. By the looks of things, there are a lot of unhappy customers out there that bought these lights..... stay away from these flashlights!

Failed Battery Packs
User submitted photo
Though incredibly bright, all four of mine worked fine for a while.

None saw any abuse.

All four failed at the top of the battery pack where the two screws attach it.

Well if I can get replacement battery packs, my four could live again or join the land fills. Maybe I might buy more.

A simple short fall in molding plastic and appropriate screws. Spring might have been too strong too.

For $29 for two and less than two years service, not a good buy.

so far so go good, 12/10/2009
By: Popajones
I bought a 2 pack of these lights several months ago and no problems so far, I have NOT dropped one yet so can't comment on that. I work second shift and take the dog out every night when I get home and the light has worked great and I like the fact that it has the high and low setting options. For the money spent I am very happy and both lights have performed well, I have not had to replace the batteries yet. I keep a Coleman Cree in my truck which is very similar to this light but costs more too.

Element defective flashlights, 10/17/2009
By: mrltwa , Chicago, Illinois
Purchased ten LED flashlights seven months ago, to this date only four lights are working. The battery holders on six of the flashlights have broken or the screws will no longer hold the assembly together. Can the company provide a solution for this problem, or are we just the unfortunate owners of a bad product ???

Worthless, 09/25/2009
By: Anonymous , Tulsa, OK
I bought 4 of these and three of them are totally useless because the battery compartment is broken. The head piece of the battery holder breaks off because the screws holding it in are too short. It's the worst piece of engineering I've ever seen in my life.

Good duty flashlight.

I work security for a hospital network and I carry one on my belt with a carrier meant for a Streamlight Stinger. It is a good belt carried light & backup to my Mag-charger Maglight. I have dropped this K2 flashlight several times, once from a moving patrol truck. By the way to you all giving negative reviews because of the battery compartment, I bought a triple pack of Denali Super birght 9-LED flashlights from Amazon.com for $12 & the battery compartments are perfectly interchangeable with this Element-K2. I use them at home but I now have backup battery compartments if I need it.

Don't Bother, 08/05/2009
By: mrsmaam
I bought two packages of these for Christmas. Gave as stocking stuffers to my kids and husband. My husband dropped the plastic battery container and, like others, it shattered. He superglued it...it shattered again. You cannot get a replacement insert, and our local Sam's Club doesn't carry it anymore. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.

not too bad a flashlight (but I have 2 that take only 1 AA which are much brighter) BUT don't try changing the batteries. A mess, if you drop it. Then, its history unless you are an electrical engineer/mechanic. It literally shatters.

Surprisingly bright, very affordable, 03/22/2009
By: YCAaron , Yuba City, CA
I purchased a 2-pack of these flashlights at Sam's Club for around $30 to replace a maglite in my wife's vehicle. I saw they were LED lights, and I've had mixed results (not impressive) with other LED lights in the past, but decided to give these a try. I got them home, opened them up & put the batteries in, and was blown away by how bright these flashlights are! The light they put out is a very bright white light, not a blue-ish light like some older LEDs which were trying to get the brightness over the color. Then I checked the info on the packaging and learned that the LEDs in the lights are made by Lumileds, a division of Agilent Technologies. I have a friend who worked there in the past, and she would tell me the company's big project at that time was making a bright white LED without the blue wavelength which was coming across in other LEDs at that time. Looks like they got it right, and with the amount of power these use, they can put out that incredibly bright light for many hours before needing new batteries, let alone needing to change the light source.

The 2-pack I bought came with the lights, lanyards, and 3 AAA Energizer batteries for each light. The lights are adjustable from spot to wide, but I've found it is most useful to just leave them on the spot setting for most applications. The aluminum housing makes the lights very tough, as well as light, and there are rubber seals in the head & tailcap to make them water resistant. The batteries fit into a round 3-battery holder, then slip into the rear of the light. The tailcap threads on easily (not like some of the older maglites where you almost needed to use silicone to make them thread closed). The lights have the on/off switch recessed in the tailcap, as well as a small hole in one edge of the tailcap for the lanyard.

I've been so impressed with these lights, after getting myself a pair for 2 of our vehicles, that I bought another set for our third vehicle and home use, as well purchasing more sets as gifts for many of my friends & family members.

Never had any problem with any of the lights' battery holders.

Battery Holder Defect-Company is Aware Now!!, 03/16/2009
By: ImEmmittSmith
Bought 2 sets and just opened them and all 4 had a battery holder defect. Contacted company and they are aware of the problem and said they were manufactured with too short a screw. 3 weeks until new shipment of battery holders arrives. Really do like this flashlight. I did a comparison with several really expensive($50-100) flashlights and this is up there with them. Only thing missing is the strobe function. Overall one of the best flashlights for the price.

Great Flashlight EXCEPT, 03/12/2009
By: AmigaMan
I bought my first pair of these lights maybe six months ago, liked them so much I bought four more pairs and told all my friends about them, they really are BRIGHT!! But then the batteries needed to be changed , and as other people have reported, when removing the battery holder it broke. The holder has broken in more than one , two sets that have so far need batteries have both fallen apart. Definitely A Manufacturing Defect! Too bad, I really like them!

nice light, 03/07/2009
By: NotAvailable
Very bright, seems to last a long time, I recommend using rechargeable batteries if you use them a lot, while these are very efficient led lights they are 4 watts and they do produce a lot of light. My battery holders were fine on mine.
I think these are better than my 18v conventional flashlight

Great Lights, 02/05/2009
By: DownTime , Tulsa, Oklahoma
I have bought and regularly use most of these for work, spelunking, camping, and even shallow dives and have not had a problem with any! The battery case is not as sturdy as they should be however, although none have broken or been defective on my end after several battery changes, but they do come w/ a warranty and element is good about sending out replacements-free of charge. Do wish they included a holster.

Like a couple of other reviewers, the flashlights seemed to work well at first but when opened to change batteries, battery holder fell apart and I couldn't get back together.
