A Real Value & Easy to Use....,
01/31/2010
By: chichi99, Southern California
This is an excellent buy. White rice is as well prepared as any Chinese Restaurant. I travel in Asia a lot and this can make rice for any restaurant I know of. If you don't have perfect results....READ THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL. It recommends a different cup size than an american cup measurement; use the cup included in the box! I experimented and even was able to make great Spanish Rice by "toasting" it in a pan before dropping all the ingredients in the rice cooker. Was great!

The Smart Rice Cooker,
01/08/2010
By: LYNND, SoCal
As a college student many years ago, I cooked brown rice on a stovetop, until I accidentally left it on the burner until the rice turned to charcoal. It took years for the smell of smoke to fade from the kitchen. That's when I bought an electric cooker. I already own a working Aroma 20-cup rice cooker and have been happy with the brand and its quality. Like a lot of people, however, I have never been able to obtain decent brown rice out of a conventional rice cooker.
This digital rice cooker with Sensor Logic technology is a worthy upgrade. It makes brown rice vastly better than I ever could achieve on my own. Because it takes about 2 hours to cook brown rice, however, the 15-hour delay feature comes in enormously helpful, and results in the rice ready-and-waiting at the desired meal time if set up the night before or early in the day. After cooking the rice remains switches automatically to "keep warm" for up to 12 hours.
I am especially happy that this model has a white plastic cool-touch exterior, as opposed to only the lid being cool-to-the-touch. In addition to added safety, the plastic also has the added advantage of showing less water marks, scratches and dings or dents associated with metal sides and the stainless steel trim that is so popular on kitchen electrics today.
The only thing that is a major drawback is that an attempt to stir the rice makes the bowl move enough so that the nonstick coating on the bottom is already showing signs of break-through scratches in less than a month of ownership. On the inside, meanwhile, I have had no issues with scalding or sticking but I am beginning to see some clouding/rice residues that are troubling. My original Aroma rice cooker, which still works after several years of use, has a pale gray nonstick coating that seems more durable and looks better than this one does with comparatively little use. So long as Aroma offers replacement pots for this model, I don't foresee it as being a serious problem, however.
There is a larger model, the ARC-1000 Professional model that is designed more conventionally, like a tall stock pot, that has the same Sensor Logic controls and features as this one, with the sole exception of the "Sushi Rice" button and it offers a two-year warranty to boot. For some reason the MSRP on that model is cheaper even though it produces a heck of a lot more rice. This model, by contrast, is equivalent to about 3 quarts and when the steaming tray is in use you lose rice cooking capacity, which may be a consideration for those with large families to feed. This model is probably best suited for 1-4 member households.
All in all this is a competent rice cooker that is attractive and compact enough to leave out on the counter. Rice has never tasted better thanks to the computer-timed and adjusted cooking method. Now all I need is Aroma's matching dry rice dispenser, sold separately.

Didn't Know What I Was Missing,
12/29/2009
By: CoupleInDesPlaines
I've always cooked rice on the stove using a saucepan and lid, with fair results. I did not need a rice cooker! Unfortunately, I would often overcook or delay fish or vegetables while waiting for the rice to finish. When my son suggested that I buy a rice cooker, I did not respond kindly.
Finally, I relented and purchased the Aroma 6-cup Sensor Logic Rice Cooker. After using it for several meals, I have to admit that I was wrong, and that I did not know what I was missing.
White rice comes out great --- just like our favorite restaurant. Brown rice comes out even better, and Basmati rice fills the kitchen with a pleasant aroma that makes it hard to wait for the dinner bell.
Cleaning is a snap - the inner container comes out for quick cleaning in the sink, and the rest of the unit wipes up easily.
The size is just right for a couple or small family.
The only negative that I've found is that the instructions suggest that you let the rice and water sit for 20 minutes before cooking, but the delay timer has a minimum two hour delay. I just set the timer on the microwave, and 20 minutes later I hit the start button on the rice cooker.

Great rice cooker,
12/29/2009
By: labrat, Seattle, WA
I was looking for a rice cooker that would do well with brown rice, sushi rice and white rice but didn't want to spend a fortune. Most of the ones I looked at were over $125 and the reviews for reliability were no better than the Aroma. The Aroma rice cooker has all of the features of the more expensive ones with logic based cooking, easy to use controls, retractable cord and non-stick bowl. The results have been great. The rice is just better.

Great cooker,
10/13/2009
By: airbear, The colorado front range
I looked around at several rice cookers. We wanted the brown rice option, which the cheaper ones don't have, and also one that cooked a smaller amount. We also didn't want to spend $100 or more to cook rice for the two of us. Found this one and it had great reviews. The price was the best at Sam's and we've used it several times now and simply love the final product. We've cooked brown rice, and a wild rice -brown rice mix, as well as white rice, and they all came out great. Brown rice does take a long time to cook, so allow for it! You will be happy with this cooker.

well designed, well made,
09/10/2009
By: thomasw
I have owned several rice cookers in the past, and I was initially attracted to this unit because of its judicious use of technology. This is a high-tech rice cooker! I have used it frequently for about four months now, and am extremely pleased with it. Cooking perfect rice, every time, is a no-brainer with this device. The design of this unit is simply meticulous. The fit and finish are excellent, too. I also have an Aroma Electric Kettle, which I am also extremely pleased with. This company makes high quality products!

Most Excellent Rice Cooker,
09/08/2009
By: TWTW, StL
I ordered this rice cooker a little over a month ago and got it a few days later, shipping was pretty fast. They wanted me to avoid mentioning price, but price is important to this review since when I began looking at rice cookers some of the first ones I saw were close to $300. I immediately adjusted my search to maybe a $100; the words rice and $300 don't fit together very well for me, a $100 is a little ridiculous. Anyway, this cooker cost me a little over $60 with tax and shipping.
For the money, this cooker is perfection. I must admit, it took me a month to use it and I've only used it once, but it cooked rice as well as any rice I've ever seen or eaten.
I cooked white rice because I thought it would be the easiest and it's what I'm most familiar with. Put a pound of rice in, that's three rice cooker cups (they give you a special sized cup). Added three and a half cooker cups of water. Plugged it in and made sure the little indicator was above white rice. It took a little over 43 minutes to cook, the book said 32 to 37 minutes, but humidity and ambient temp and anything can affect it. It has sensors that know when it's done.
I let it sit around about ten more minutes, opened it up and I'd give it an A+ for rice. It's really easy to clean and take care and has a retractable cord (but cooks rice way better than any iron I've ever seen).
I'm trying brown rice next. It's really nice to get a product at a reasonable price that does a perfect job and is easy to take care of.
Dump rice in, add water, press start.

We have been looking for a medium sized 3-6 cup cooker for a long time. All the cookers we tried spilled droplets of steam all around the cooker. We tried black and decker, panasonic, rival, to name a few. Returned them everytime. Finally decided to go for an automatic cooker and found this as the cheapest one. No spills around, the cord retracts and can be stored easily, no mess to clean the lid, can use the delay timer to have rice ready when you'll be back home. Love the cooker .

Excellent cooker,

I tried the other aroma 8-cup rice cooker but didn't like it for brown rice. This one as told in other reviews is excellent for brown rice. I like the black pot. I am using it everyday for cooking brown rice. The timer is a great feature. I set the timer before going to bed and the rice is ready for my lunch box in the morning. This is because it takes 2 hours to cook brown rice.

Great Rice Cooker,
04/24/2009
By: cyn2ski, California
I can't believe how great this rice cooker is. I had been using my daughter's expensive Zojirushi rice cooker and this one works every bit as well. The size is perfect for a small family or small kitchen. It is light and small enough to put it away in a cabinet and not have it out on the counter. The brown rice is just fabulous and the steamer is perfect. I am really pleased with this product.

Great Product,

This is the best rice maker I have ever purchased. Having the delay timer is wonderful and very helpful. Meal in the crock pot, rice on delay, come home and dinner is served. Doesn't burn the rice on the bottom, makes it perfect every time. Easy to use, even my boys volunteer to make a pot of rice. I sometimes mix brown and white rice and it comes out perfect every time.
