Pretty self explanatory to use. Great to have when you don't have time to spend on the computer and want to watch your home movies in the convenience of your dvd. The quality of it it is SONY need I say more!Also it helps not to clutter up the hard drive in your computer.

Great for VHS!,

I bought the Sony DVDirect in order to copy my many...many...vhs that are rotting in my movie closet. While not all copy due to the macro, most have. This item will not make the vhs picture better, but it does copy them as well as they are seen useing my home vcr. This item will save me many thousands of dollars in the long run as I have spent that much on my movie collection over the years. Anyone who bought into the vhs craze knows the quality goes very quickly as they break down. It is very easy to use, extremely easy to set up, and does a very good job. I agree that being able to hear the sound would be great, but for the price I would buy again!

Best features reserverd for Sony only products,

Although it does let you make a DVD that can be played on a standard TV Top player it doesn't let you do that for HDR on DVD. I have a Canon camcorder and it won't do the Blue Ray on DVD that it does do if you happen to own the Sony Camcorder and use that to interface. Directions are skimpy , but easy enough to learn by trial and error. Just be sure to test first as I had some letter box videos that I though where wide screen. All that was required was changing a setting on the recorder and the next time though I got what I was after.

I was looking for this product online and thought Sam's stores might have it. It was available and at a reasonable price.
I have only used it once so far, but it was just what I was looking for. Very simple and easy to use. And works great!
If anyone is looking to record to DVD from just about any medium, this is the ticket!
