New lightweight garden stepping stones, made from recycled plastic, weighs only 5 pounds compared to 35 pounds for a concrete stone. Installation is completely a personal preference, can dig out an area and put the stone in or just drop on the ground, as they are heavy enough to stay put! We purchased the Smart Stones to replace our front sidewalk. It was less expensive than concrete, and if we decide to move them, its no problem. They look really nice.

These heavyweight stones were exactly what I needed in front of the screen door in my patio. They are heavy enough to stay in place and seem really durable. They are sort of pricey.

Stones Just Laying on Top of Ground

We loved the look of these Smart Stones so we purchased 60 of thm to create a curving walkway to one of our little cabins. And to a couple of other places around our home. They looked beautiful and my husband did everything right by digging out an exact spot in the ground and placing them securely. We had several days of rain afterward and the stones floated above the ground and the water stayed under them...creating a big swoosh of mud straight up when you stepped on them. Our only solution now is to take them up, turn them over and fill them with concrete to make them heavy enough to stay in place.
