Logging on and off Windows 7 is Horrible. Computer has to be shut down after the computer goes to sleep in order to get to windows. Vista was slow but this is rediculous.

Watch-out, 11/17/2009
By: Tory , Prior Lake, MN
I pursh W-7 thru the Pre release option and before I rcvd it , the local SC was offering a family pack for 3. I WAS able to exchange it gratefully! I tried to load my Toshiba lap-top with the upgrade to vista option, but it would not work because of the RAID drivers. Wound up have to wipe out all and load it clean. That was okay, but then tried to restore from Carbonite and ran into numerous problems. Still do not have my mail complete, but think I have most everything else. Main problem was that W-7 has several NEW timers, that prevented complete downloads due to hard disk shutting down or PC going to sleep. No warning info on these issues.

Far better than Vista, 11/11/2009

I bought this to get rid of Vista and that seems to have solved all my laptop problems, but I wouldn't recommend it just yet for XP replacement. It is slightly better than XP, but a real headache to do a custom install.

Performed a direct upgrade from Windpws Vista. After the upgrade everything worked flawlessly. The upgrade process even found new Win 7 drivers for the hardware and installed them automatically. The Upgrade process was easy and took about an hour.

A Clean Window, 11/05/2009
By: ComputerMan1492
The process of upgrading from Vista was very smooth. It took about 2 hours on a desktop computer bought this year. It's the best Windows so far, but not perfect. Exploring its features is fun because of all the new discoveries. So far no blue or black screens of death so often encountered with earlier Windows editions.

Awesome upgrade, 11/04/2009
By: AXB1Y
This is an awesome upgrade and very worthwhile from XP and also from Vista. It is very fast, even on netbooks, and is rock solid. I have been playing with Win 7 since RC1 and I was able to go without a reboot for 3 months - the required reboot was for some security update installations specific to the beta release that I was playing. I am very happy I got this upgrade.

By: daff1500 , Henderson, KY
I had been having problems with my XP desktop and the blue screen of death. After installing windows 7, I haven't had any problems with this computer since. The update process with without a hitch.
I also installed 7 on my Vista laptop. It is also working with no problems.
I did clean installs on both computers.
Thanks for to Leo and Paul for all of their help

Not Sure Why I Bought It!, 11/04/2009
By: Hollerithguy , Beavercreek, Ohio
While I have not explored all the supposed "improved" features, from what I've observed, it offers little functionality improvement over the latest update of Windows Vista. Disappointed and not described at purchase is the need to extensively "gut" all loaded applictions and data bases in order to upgrade from Windows XP.

Finally upgraded from Win XP, 11/04/2009
By: StickMan
Like many others, I avoided Windows Vista like the plague. But being a tech junkie, I had been reading about Vista's successor and thought I'd give it a try. Long story short, I am very happy with it. It runs well on my 4+ year old computer, uses only about 1/2 of my installed memory (2 GB total), and looks pretty. I like the new features, and it supposedly has much better security than XP, so I can fool myself into thinking I upgraded for more than cosmetic reasons.

Note: There are a number of add-ons on Microsoft's website. Check out Live Essentials for starters.

Good Product, 11/04/2009
By: UncleDannie , Bakersfield, California
Took an extra week from release date to receive product. Won't make that mistake in future, however, Win7 operated very smoothly after installation. Software a great upgrade over Vista, however, cannot get HomeGroup option to work, no matter what I do. Buy it? Yes, but still not as stable or useful as MacOS Snow Leapord, which is flawless on my MacBook.

Worth the Wait, 11/04/2009
By: franklinv , Dunkirk, NY
Windows 7 is the best of all of the operating systems that Microsoft has developed to date. Installation took less than 1 hour and use of Windows Easy Transfer to transfer files from my old computer to my new one added to the ease of transition to Windows 7.
One caution, make sure your computer will be compatible with Windows 7 by using the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor.

Windows 7 was worth the wait.

Sorry, Charlie ...., 11/04/2009
By: Anonymous
I can't recommend this new version, mainly because I can't get it installed. I consider myself an expert on the PC, so followed all directions (yes, compatibility checked ok), closed all programs as recommended, removed programs as recommended (although each new attempt would bring up a different set of programs to remove, and would spend hours on the installation, just to have the installation "freeze" on the LAST step at 62% complete (three times - once after making the environment entry change recommended by MS when having a freeze at 62%. Of course, MS says that this isn't the ONLY item that could cause the freeze. I consider this a product defect, not a minor error, so DO NOT recommend this product for anyone, So far I have wasted over 16 hours of productivity trying to install the upgrade (from Vista).
