Reviewed my options for weeks.My existing Set was a 47" JVC we temporarily got at Aarons.The JVC seemed to be a fabulous TV but with the deal Sams had on this Vizio I couldn't pass it up.When I got this thing home and fired it up it was like day and night.50000.1 contrast ratio,120htz,1080p it made the JVC look like an etch n' sketch.For the money you cant find a better deal period.Get this TV go home throw in 2012 on blue ray set the settings to Vivid and be blown away,I thought i was going to fall off the face of the earth.

We bought the Vizio 47" LCD HDTV about 2 weeks ago online, and so far the only problem we have is with the volume. It seems to come in and out without touching the remote. Kinda annoying!!!! The picture is great, and we are pleased with the TV other than the volume issue.

I bought this tv in Sept 2009 and was very pleased with the picture quality compared to Sony or Samsung. Everything was fine until about 4 days after Christmas and the entire middle of the screen just went black. Tried turning tv off and unplugging it. When I plugged it back up same thing happen. Very disappointed that this Vizio only lasted 3&1/2 months, but took it back to the Sams Club I bought it at. Traded up and got a Phillips 47' 120Hz for $1.09 more and been very happy with new tv.

NikP Please be aware that the unrealistic look you are noticing IS because it is 120 hz. The "soap opera" feel gives it a raw look because you are not use to seeing the frame refresh that fast. Note that "film" in movie theaters 24fps.. Even less than that of DVD/TV etc. There is a slight color bleed in this T.V., however I don't know many people that can/will notice. It is inherent with almost all LCD t.v.'s that are not LED LCD's. Samsung and Sony use a better technology, but they can not touch the value/price of this Vizio 47". Buyers, allow yourself to adjust to the "new" image before you return it or think there is an issue.

It distorts when moving,

The colors are perfectly brilliant and the picture is awesome when it's still BUT it definitely distorts when the picture is moving.
It's like watched uncut raw footage. It doesn't matter if it's a DVD signal, cable signal or an over the air signal. It's a disturbing unrealistic feeling.
I suspect that the problem is the refresh rate and the 240Hz version would fix the problem. My wife is even more bothered by it than I am and suspects it's something other than the refresh rate such as using component cables instead of HDMI. But we're watching 720p cable or 480p DVDs. So, that shouldn't be it.
I wonder if Vizio's120Hz is like other brands 60Hz and their 240Hz is more similar to others' 120Hz for a similar refresh feeling.
Also, the sound is lacking power. When someone else is talking in the room, it's hard to hear.
Of course I won't care when I get my sound system set up. I would prefer though one really good mono speaker in the center so I wouldn't need to buy a center speaker. The two low quality ones will have to be muted anyway. I could just buy the other speakers for 7.1. One good speaker would sound better than two low quality ones anyway.
Also, the angle doesn't feel good from the side -even just a little bit to the side is noticeably less quality. I didn't have that problem when I had a plasma.

When i purchased this tv i was a little skeptical. I had read most the reviews posted on samsblub website and thought it had " ok " reviews. If i was gonna spend that much on a tv i expected the reviews to be nothing less than spectacular. Anyhow i love the picture the High def. is great and i am very pleased with it. I had a 42 in 240hz and upgraded to this one. I actually lke this product much better. The remote isnt great on features. You cant program it for your dvd/ cd player like i could with the other vizio. It doesnt make a huge difference. The sound that everyone said is bad isnt as bad as they make it out to be. No it doesnt sound like a surround sound but its fine.

I ordered this TV online. It got to my house in 3 days. The only problem i have is the remote sensor in the TV was bad. The repair is being done at my house. If that is fixed I am overall happy with this TV.

Good...for the Right Buyer,

Since my satelite provider wanted my first born and a new 2-year contract in order to upgrade to HD and my wife didn't want to give them our son, this review is solely from an SD user perspective.
In looking for a 46" for our family room, I first purchased this LCD to replace a 720; 60Hz that was just too grainy. There was some noticeable difference in the SD clarity with the 1080, but not enough to justify the upgrade cost in my opinion. Also, the 120Hz made some programs (movies or high-quality series) look like they were in bizarre 3D (the so-called "soap opera effect"). Some people like this...but, I thought it was just awful. I could find nowhere to turn this off...maybe operator error.
Sound quality is just really not good at all...and i'm not picky about that. It sounds very chincy...You'll need a surround system to make this acceptable.
The remote is simple to an extreme and almost all functionality is buried in menus. This might not be a big issue if you're not one to change aspect ratio and such frequently, but if you are this will be annoying.
Aside from the remote issue, this is probably a great TV for someone with HD and surround sound, but for us old SD guys who are just not sound gurus, this wasn't a good purchase. I came back home with a dreaded plasma:) (Panasonic 46") and am thus far much more satisfied.
Time will only tell on longevity and long-term issues of the plasma, but for now the quality in SD is night and day....and our 7-year-old didn't have to be offered up to Dish Network for any upgrades, which made his mom happy:)
