Wow! What A Great Deal!!!,

I love this TV, the clarity of the pictures the features. EVERYTHING about this televisions I like. Especially the fact that it came with the base was already attached. It also came with a equipment in the event you want to mount it to the wall. I did a lot of research on the internet and compared prices and this television by far exceeded some of the more expensive name brand television. We just love it, and the price was really reasonable for the size. My son especially likes the Vizio . He said the graphics far exceed our 36 inch Polaroid flat panel when it comes to playing video games. He's really enjoyed playing his games on the Vizio. Shhhhhh, don't tell him but he'll be getting his own 27 inch Vizio for X-masThat's how much we love the Vizio. Buy! Buy! Buy!

First VIZIO. Very Pleased!,

My 32" flat screen quit working after several years...will not say what brand though! I did a-lot of research and decided to purchase this VIZIO. It was in my price range of 1k or less. I researched my VIZIO on SAMSclub website. My son and I went to our local SAMSclub and they had one on display along with other brands. I looked at the competition while I was there and still picked this VIZIO. I could go on longer however if you are looking for a full HD LCD tv you should give this one a look before you decide on a purchase. The picture is great with gameing, and NFL Sunday Ticket is crystal clear! Almost like being at the game. I would suggest to hook up audio from a stereo source like I did...It makes a big difference.

I highly recommend this model if you are on a tight budget. The picture is as good as models several hundred dollars more in price. The picture is outstanding, setup very easy. Of course sound is weak but then who expects a television to have good speakers??? It has taken me years to move from a CRT to LCD. I was really looking at Plasma but due to my viewing habits the LCD models were the best choice. I am a photographer and therefore have some pretty stringent requirements for picture and color quality. If you have tons of money and an open budget then maybe a $2500 television is best for you but if like most of us out there a lower budget is reality you can't go wrong with this purchase. I love it and I know my clients will love seeing their images on a 47" screen with the quality level the Vizio provides. Don't hesitate buy this tv!

If it's time to go 1080p, THIS IS THE TV!!!,

OK, so there's a # of positive reviews here so I wanted to add some extra info. We were ready to buy a LED TV at almost double the price. Went to view the LED tv (not at Sams) and found the picture quality was blurry & not better than LCD. This may be the trend but the tech is not there yet. Decided to buy LCD instead & planned to get a Samsung, as we have a 32" 1080p we like. We were on the fence to buy the Vizio compared to the quality of the Samsung (plus my husband gets wierd about which brands he will & will NOT be willing to buy- which usually leads to spending more for a market leader like Samsung or Sony).
The result is DO NOT HESITATE to purchase this Vizio, or any other size if it's at least 120HZ!! I know you can save a lot buying a 60HZ set but the screen resolution difference is dramatic from 60HZ to 120HZ, not as obvious from 120HZ to 240HZ. ( I saw all 3 levels of the same set lined up at another store & that was really helpful) We also looked at some LG LCD sets and didn't find the picture quality to be good enough.
You can review all the details of this LCD such as smooth motion, contrast ratio, etc.. It was easy to set up, already attached to the stand. (For the 42" size you need to assemble the stand, not a big deal) There are 4 HDMI ports and everything is easy to find. The set is surprisingly lightweight, so if possible I would rec. a wall mount.
The bottom line is this 47" 120 HZ LCD is amazing, it smoked the "excellent" 32" Samsung we already own. In fact the picture is so bright, so sharp, so clear, that it almost loked like video when we watched the blue ray for Iron Man. So real looking, it almost looked fake, not the usual result when watching a DVD. This clarity carried over even when watching HD channels for broadcast tv with an HD receiver.( We were more impressed than seeing the blue ray on our 65" Mitsubushi rear projection, which by the way cost about $5,000!!! Argh!! Well, as you know technology changes fast ) We hooked up an XBOX 360 to the Vizio set & were blown away.
OK, now the bad news. This TV was to replace a VERY old SONY projection set that died that the kids watch. So now, we may seldom end up watching the best TV in the house!!! (or perhaps tv & movie time will need to relocate into the kids bonus loft!)

Very surprised and pleased,

My wife and I finally decided to get a big screen, so we picked this model. I am a tech specialist, and I am very critical when researching and reviewing products. I had average expectations for this TV, but we were both highly surprised at the picture quality and the ATSC (over-the-air) tuner.
The TV displayed OTA ATSC signals (720p/1080i) in a crisp and clear manner. The tuner in this thing is powerful. I was able to add 5 more channels, including ones from over 70 miles away. None of my old converter boxes could do that.
The HDMI connections are super crisp, and the 480p Component mode (used with a Wii) is much better than I expected. I wasn't expecting 480p to look that good on a television.
I did have to play around with the S-Video/Composite input a little, but that is because S-Video/Composite is the lowest quality signal. For S-Video, I had to increase the backlight, and adjust the brightness/contrast, because the signal was coming in too dark.
I have not hooked a computer up to the Analog VGA port yet, but you can run the screen at 1920x1080 @ 60Hz. That is more than enough for streaming video. You can also use a DVI-to-HDMI adapter on HDMI 3.
All of the adjustments are very easy to make, except that picture-in-picture is buried a few clicks down (and it isn't on the remote).
Sound quality has been excellent, through both the standard TV speakers, and through the analog out (connected to an old Pioneer Pro-Logic surround sound system).
The only cons I have found is that the manual doesn't totally match up to the TV. It refers to settings that aren't there, and to buttons on the remote that don't exist. The other con is a quirk with the tuner losing a channel (has happened twice, on the same channel). The channel just disappears, and it switches to the next available channel. If you power cycle the TV, the channel comes back. It is an odd behavior.

The old 53-inch projections went out, so I popped into Sam's and found this! What a deal. I unhooked the old floor model, grabbed the new 47, plopped onto the TV stand, and plugged everything in. Bam! Too easy! The picture is so much nicer. I thought I was watching 3D sometimes. Bright colors, and dark black set off the experience.
I haven't tried to adjust the sound yet, but it does sound a bit "tinny". Once I have this mounted to the wall with the home theater hooked up, we should be set.
My wife can now watch her football this Sunday. Too bad there isn't a 6 for value!

Great picture but no features at all. The one it does have, picture in picture, is 8 or 9 steps into the menu system to turn on. And you cant use the tuner in the small window. You can only watch an input such as a dvd player. So no watching a movie while surfing the other channels.

I purchased the Vizio VL470M on 8/29/09. I was actually interested in the VL420M. The size and price were more to my liking. Problem is the 420 is only available on line and I wanted to take advantage of the 6 month no interest offer only available on purchases in the club. I bit the bullet and got the larger 470. I was a bit worried that it would be too big for my room but it seems to fit nicely. I have satellite service through Dish Network and I have an HD satellite receiver connected via HDMI. The picture is astounding. I have been most impressed with sports. I have watched several baseball and football games broadcast in HD. The picture detail is truly amazing. I work in the IT/instructional technology department of a small college. I have used lots of technology over the years especially AV gear. The wide shot from behind home plate looks like a high end video game due to the visible detail. When I switch to a non HD channel, the difference in the video is striking. I am very happy with this unit so far. One of the reason I was drawn to this unit was for its multimedia capabilities. I copied some still pics and music over to a USB thumb drive and inserted it into the device. The unit recognizes the drive and brings up a menu giving you a choice to view pics/listen to music/watch videos. The pics look great and the music sounds great. Due to the fact it has only 10 watt speakers, I was worried about a lack of volume but it fills my living room. Another feature I have used is the VGA input in conjunction with my laptop. The computer video is as impressive as the HD. I have looked at internet pics, You Tube and Hulu video on this unit and have been pleased even though the videos source material is not always great. The motion and sharpness are really good given the poor quality of some of the sources material. The HD stuff on Hulu looks fantastic. Websites and my email look good also. I can easily view everything from across the room. I have a Dell Latitude E6500. I am itching to get a Display Port to HDMI adapter and sample digital video from my pc. In conclusion the video is crisp and clear, motion is very natural, and the colors and brightness are vibrant. I also like the multimedia capabilities. The price, while more than I wanted to pay, I deem a good value overall. If this unit lasts as long as the Sharp 32” standard definition TV it replaced (14 years), I will be extremely satisfied.
